Mumbai, 17th February 2026: Sony SAB’s upcoming show Yaadein draws inspiration from the remarkable real-life journey of Dr. Pierdante Piccioni, a doctor who went into a coma after his vehicle crash – leaving him with a serious brain injury. Coming out of the coma Dr. Piccioni discovered that 12 years of his memory had been erased. Forced to reconstruct not only his career but also his identity, relationships, and sense of self, his story is one of resilience, rediscovery, and second chances. Rooted in this extraordinary true story, the show spotlights the story of Dr. Dev (Iqbal Khan), who isn’t just trying to reclaim his lost past, but is slowly learning what it truly means to heal, both as a doctor and as a human being.
For Iqbal Khan, stepping into the role of Dr. Dev in the show meant carrying forward a real story. Knowing that the character is inspired by a real-life doctor added a deep sense of responsibility to his approach to his preparation for the role. Iqbal focused on understanding the emotional disorientation of losing a significant part of one’s life, the quiet confusion, the unfamiliarity of loved ones, and the fragile process of rebuilding identity. Rather than dramatizing the condition, he chose to approach it with restraint and sensitivity, exploring how a man slowly rediscovers himself through human connection and second chances.
Speaking about stepping into the role, Iqbal Khan shares, “When you’re playing a fictional character, you have creative liberty. But when the story is inspired by a real person’s life, there is a certain responsibility that comes with it. You’re not just performing; you’re representing someone’s lived truth. What moved me most was Dr. Pierdante Piccioni journey of rediscovering himself after his memory loss. Imagine waking up and realising that the world has moved ahead by twelve years relationships have evolved, your child has grown up, your work has changed and you’re meeting your own life like a stranger. As an actor, I had to constantly remind myself that for him, this wasn’t drama, it was reality.”
