Weston McKennie scored his third goal in consecutive Champions League games on Wednesday, to help Juventus seal a 2-0 win over Benfica.
The USMNT midfielder got his side’s second in the 64th-minute of its clash with the Portuguese giants for the 10th goal of his career in the competition.
McKennie swapped passes with Canada international forward Jonathan David on the edge of the Benfica area before sending a smart finish into the bottom left corner at Allianz Stadium. It comes after he also scored in Juventus’ two previous fixtures against Pafos in December, and Bodo/Glimt in November.
The 27-year-old Texan is now his side’s joint top goalscorer in this season’s Champions League, alongside striker Dusan Vlahovic. McKennie also has two goals and three assists for Luciano Spalletti’s team in their Serie A campaign so far. McKennie, who joined Juventus from German outfit Schalke in August 2020, is out of contract with the Turin club in June.

This latest win means Juventus sit 15th in the Champions League table format, with one game left and certain of a round of 16 playoff spot. However, a win over USMNT teammate Folarin Balogun’s Monaco on January 28 could yet seal them automatic qualification for the next phase.
Meanwhile, USMNT international Tim Weah’s Marseille are 19th in the table after they lost 3-0 to Liverpool at their Stade Velodrome home. Weah, 25, played the full game from the start on the right of midfield. Yunus Musah was an unused substitute for Atalanta as they also lost in the competition on Wednesday, slumping to a 3-2 home defeat by Athletic Club.
