SAN ANTONIO — Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kumina will not play in Friday night’s NBA Cup group stage game against the San Antonio Spurs because of bilateral knee tendonitis.
Kuminga has been dealing with the injury the past few days and tried to play through it in Wednesday’s game against the Spurs, but did not return for the second half of Golden State’s 125-120 win. Warriors coach Steve Kerr has not expressed concern that the injury will linger, but Kuminga’s absence could allow the 23-year-old to get back on track after a rough stretch.
The fifth-year forward started the season with a bang, being named a starter by Kerr and playing well on both ends of the floor. Before Wednesday’s game, Kerr pulled Kuminga from the starting lineup in favor of Moses Moody. Kuminga is shooting just 18-for-48 from the field over his last five games.
