Jac Schaeffer has signed a three-year television overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Variety has learned exclusively.
Under the deal, Schaeffer will develop, write, executive produce, and direct original series for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.
Schaeffer was previously under an overall deal at Marvel Studios and 20th Television. She is best known for creating and showrunning the hit Marvel Studios Disney+ series “WandaVision.” The show was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series to premiere on Disney+, with Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles as Wanda and Vision from the Marvel films.
The show proved to be a smash hit, ultimately earning 23 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations as well as numerous other accolades. It was one of the most well-reviewed and highly-praised TV shows of 2021. Schaeffer’s writing earned particular praise, with viewers expressing their love of the show’s takes on classic sitcom formats while also dealing with serious emotions that Wanda was going through in the story.
Schaeffer then went on to create the “WandaVision” spinoff “Agatha All Along” starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, reprising her role from “WandaVision.” Schaeffer was the showrunner, writer, and executive producer on that show in addition to directing. That show was also well-received, earning three Emmy nominations as well as nods for Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards, and more.
Most recently, Schaeffer directed the pilot for a Disney+ series take on the Louis Sachar novel “Holes” and contributed to the story of the Marvel film “Black Widow.” Prior to her time with Marvel, she wrote the screenplay for the Disney animated featurette “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” as well as the 2019 Anne Hathaway-Rebel Wilson comedy “The Hustle,” which was a remake of the 1980s comedy feature “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”
In 2009, Schaeffer wrote, directed, and produced the sci-fi romcom “TiMER,” which was recently re-released and is now available to stream.
Schaeffer is repped by Curate, CAA, and attorney Erik Hyman.
