The film, which arrived in cinemas during the Pongal festive period on January 14, 2026, marked the return of director Nalan Kumarasamy to the feature film space after a long gap.
Written and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vaathiyaar follows Rameshwaran, known as Ramu, a man who grows up carrying a heavy expectation placed on him by his grandfather. Raised to believe that he must live up to the image of a legendary leader, Ramu’s life is shaped by strict discipline and constant pressure. As an adult, he steps into a position of authority and finds himself caught between power, compromise, and public image. Things take a turn when a series of cyberattacks disrupt the city, forcing Ramu to get involved and confront situations that challenge his choices and beliefs.
