With a number of U.S. men’s national team stars who were not part of the most recent international window scoring over the weekend, Weston McKennie extended the party into the Champions League.
McKennie scored the go-ahead goal for Juventus in the Italian side’s Champions League match vs. Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday, rising high at the back post to meet Fabio Miretti’s cross in the 59th minute. Juventus, which entered the day without having won in its first four League Phase matches, went down a goal in Norway when Ole Blomberg scored in the 27th minute.
Juventus pulled even three minutes after halftime through Loïs Openda, before McKennie put his side ahead with his eighth career Champions League goal.

McKennie followed in the footsteps of Christian Pulisic (game-winning goal vs. Inter Milan), Malik Tillman (goal for Bayer Leverkusen vs. Wolfsburg) and Tim Weah (goal for Marseille vs. Nice), as likely U.S. World Cup roster selections who scored following the restart of the club calendar. Tillman and Weah also started in their clubs’ return to action in the Champions League Tuesday, with Leverkusen hosting Manchester City and Marseille welcoming Newcastle to France (Weah assisted on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s go-ahead goal).
McKennie and Juventus resume Serie A play this weekend, welcoming Cagliari to Torino.
