“Room” and “Normal People” director Lenny Abrahamson is gearing up to shoot his next film for Element Pictures, and has tapped Tom Burke and Eve Hewson to star in the as-yet-untitled project.
Set within Dublin’s Jewish community in the late 1970s, the film is described as a “lyrical and emotionally resonant portrait” of Davey (newcomer Sean Meagher), a 12-year-old boy on the edge of change, navigating the anxieties of adolescence alongside the evolving dynamics of his parents’ marriage.
Abrahamson reunites with long-term collaborators Element Pictures, with shooting set to start in Dublin on March 2.
Producers are Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element (a Fremantle company), Catherine Magee (“Normal People,” “Small Things Like These”), and Abrahamson.
Behind the camera, Abrahamson is reunited with creatives from both “Normal People” and “Conversations With Friends,” including production Designer Anna Rackard, director of photography Suzie Lavelle, Editor Nathan Nugent, make up designer Sonia Dolan and composer Stephen Rennicks. Also on board are costume designer Eimer ní Mhaoldomhnaigh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Hair Stylist Orla Carroll (“The Banshees of Inisherin”).
The film is funded by Film4, High Frequency Entertainment, Screen Ireland and RTÉ. A24 has boarded as US distributor, Elevation Pictures as Canadian distributor and FilmNation Entertainment is representing international sales.
Burke was last seen in Steven Soderbergh’s “Black Bag,” and credits include “Furiosa,” “The Souveni”r and television series “Strike.” Hewson’s recent credits include the film “Flora and Son,” directed by John Carney, as well as the hit television series’ “The Perfect Couple” and “Bad Sisters.” She next stars in Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” which will release in June.
Burke is repped by B-Side, Entertainment 360, WME and Public Eye. Hewson is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Narrative and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
