Today cohost Dylan Dreyer just showed how golf can be a dangerous spectator sport.
During Monday’s 3rd Hour of Today, the anchor and NBC News meteorologist accidentally hit one of her cameramen with a golf ball.
“My balls have been known to go in weird directions,” Dreyer said before taking a swing. Then, in voiceover as footage showed her shot going off-course, she added, “Like right into my cameraman.”
After Dreyer hit the ball, someone off-camera cried out in pain, “Ow!” The cohost then grabbed her head as her eyes went wide, and she immediately went to check on the cameraman (who cohost Craig Melvin later revealed was a longtime NBC photographer named Kellan).

“Good job, Dylan,” the cameraman said as he laughed.
“Are you okay?” Dreyer asked him before apologizing. “I am so sorry.”
“Don’t cut that!” someone else added.
Later, Dreyer laughed at just how terrible her shot was since it wasn’t supposed to go anywhere near the cameraman.
“There is no physical way for the ball to go that way,” Dreyer told her co-hosts. “I thought for sure he was safe. It went backwards!”
“It redefined physics,” Melvin said.
“Luckily, he already had his children,” cohost Al Roker joked, implying that Dreyer hit the cameraman in the groin.

“Well, I hit his ankle,” Dreyer corrected. “So he was fine either way.”
Dreyer, who loves to golf, was hitting the ball on-camera during a profile on the all-inclusive New Jersey golf club for women, the Dufferettes. The cameraman continued to film after getting hit with the ball.
