X, the social media network controlled by Elon Musk, suffered a severe outage Tuesday.
Users attempting to reach X, formerly known as Twitter, saw various error messages including “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” The X app was displaying an error message that said, “Posts aren’t loading right now.”
There were more than 11,800 reports of problems with the social media platform as of 6:42 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, a downtime-monitoring service provider that tracks outages by collecting reports from a number of sources. Most of the reports (61%) were related to the X app, while 27% indicated issues with the website and 12% cited “server connection” errors, per Downdetector.
The problems at X might be related to technical issues with Cloudflare, a content delivery network and cybersecurity services provider.
Attempts to reach x.com and twitter.com in some cases returned a Cloudflare error message that read, “Internal server error / Error code 500.” Another error message that appeared when trying to access x.com said, “Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed.” In some cases, the x.com site simply failed to load.
In an update at 8:13 a.m. ET, Cloudflare said, “We have made changes that have allowed Cloudflare Access and WARP to recover. Error levels for Access and WARP users have returned to pre-incident rates. We have re-enabled WARP access in London. We are continuing to work towards restoring other services.” Other services apparently affected by the Cloudflare problems included OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Letterboxd.
Reps for X did not immediately respond to a request for information. The status page for the X developer platform did not indicate any problems Tuesday morning, showing a message that said “All systems are operational.”
X, which is a subsidiary of Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence company, has had multiple outages previously in 2025. That included the social network’s rolling outages on March 10, 2025, which Musk blamed on “a massive cyberattack” against the platform. Later that month, users reported other problems accessing X, which appeared to be resolved within half an hour.
