Shibu
Thilakan
Contests
Local
Election:
Shibu
Thilakan,
son
of
the
late
Malayalam
actor
Thilakan,
is
stepping
into
the
political
arena
alongside
his
wife,
Lekha,
as
both
contest
in
the
upcoming
local
body
elections.
Representing
the
Bharatiya
Janata
Party
(BJP),
the
couple
is
seeking
a
public
mandate
from
the
Tripunithura
Municipality.
Shibu
is
contesting
from
Ward
20,
while
Lekha
is
in
the
fray
from
Ward
19.
The
family
lives
in
Thiruvankulam
Kesavanpadi,
a
suburban
area
near
Kochi.
This
marks
another
phase
in
Shibu’s
political
journey,
which
began
in
1996
when
he
joined
the
BJP.
He
had
contested
in
the
local
body
elections
previously
but
did
not
secure
a
win.
Among
the
six
children
of
Thilakan,
Shibu
is
the
only
one
actively
involved
in
politics.
While
the
Thilakan
family
has
long
leaned
towards
communist
ideologies,
Shibu
has
chosen
a
different
path.
As
per
reports,
Shibu
has
clarified
that
although
he
respects
his
late
father’s
political
beliefs,
he
does
not
share
the
same
ideology
and
finds
it
difficult
to
align
with
communist
principles.
In
addition
to
his
political
engagements,
Shibu
has
pursued
a
career
in
films,
following
in
the
footsteps
of
his
father
and
siblings.
Over
the
years,
he
has
appeared
in
minor
roles
across
25
films.
Some
of
the
projects
where
his
performances
have
been
recognized
include
Yakshiyum
Njanum,
Evidam
Swargamanu,
and
Chalakkudykkaran
Changathy.
As
the
local
election
campaigns
gain
momentum
in
Kerala,
voters
will
determine
whether
Shibu
Thilakan
and
Lekha
can
convert
their
family
legacy
and
public
engagement
into
electoral
success.
