The economy got off to a decent start in the new year. Businesses hope things get even better.

The largest part of the economy expanded again in January, pointing to decent growth early in the new year, but businesses are still grappling with a hangover from high tariffs and finding ways to adopt artificial intelligence.

A survey of service companies such as banks, retailers and restaurants was unchanged at 53.8% in January,

the Institute for Supply Management said Wednesday.
