If your travel calendar is looking even slightly ambitious, here’s a useful factor to keep in mind before booking your flight: the most well-connected airports in the world. OAG’s Megahubs 2025 ranking reveals how well an international airport has connected you to the rest of the globe last year, based on a simple but telling comparison: These unique rankings are generated by comparing the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights with the number of destinations served from the airport.
At the very top, London‘s Heathrow Airport holds its ground for the second year in a row, clocking nearly 60,000 connections across 226 global destinations. Close behind, Istanbul Airport (which was voted by Condé Nast Traveler readers as the best international airport in 2025) takes second place with a staggering 82,733 total connections, while Amsterdam’s Schiphol ranks third, by linking travelers to 275 destinations through 66,798 connections. The US continues to dominate the list with heavy hitters like Chicago and Atlanta placing back-to-back in the 7th and 8th rank, while Paris Charles de Gaulle closes out the top 10 with 57,017 connections.
