The Seattle Seahawks were a long-shot champion this season, but they won’t be next season. That’s not to say the Seahawks can’t win it all again, but they just won’t be long shots if they do.
Seattle opened as the favorite to win next year’s Super Bowl on BetMGM. Seattle is currently +800 (8-to-1) to win a second straight title, implying a roughly 11 percent chance of a repeat. That’s a big gap from the 60-to-1 odds Seattle had at the start of this past season.
Seattle’s defense was dominant all season, especially in the Super Bowl. Sam Darnold didn’t play a starring role, but he didn’t have to. He’s still only 28 years old, and the Seahawks have young studs in wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was particularly quiet against the Patriots due to injury, and cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who did have a big game. Both Smith-Njigba and Witherspoon were first-round picks in 2023.
As for the other contenders, a familiar rival is right behind the Seahawks: The Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are +900 (9-to-1) to win the Super Bowl. The Seahawks and Rams met in the NFC Championship Game, which was only decided by four points. All three meetings between the two NFC West powers were decided by one score.
Considering how dominant Seattle was against New England in the Super Bowl and how close the Seahawks and Rams played each other this season, it’s not surprising to see the Seahawks and Rams at the top.
As for the Rams, they have the newly-crowned MVP in Matthew Stafford. Does the 38-year-old Stafford have another elite season in him? The Rams certainly have the weapons around him with wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are next up at +1200 (12-to-1). These two teams have been Super Bowl contenders for years thanks to MVP-winning quarterbacks, though both have fallen back a bit (especially Baltimore).
As long as the Bills still have Josh Allen, Buffalo will be among the main contenders. However, with a coaching change and a roster around him that needs some work, it’s unclear whether Buffalo will finally break through and win its first Super Bowl.
Lamar Jackson should keep the Ravens in contention, but Derrick Henry is 32 years old with a lot of carries under his belt. The team will have to find Jackson more help to return to contention. Baltimore also underwent a coaching change.
After that, the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles both have +1400 odds. The Eagles won the Super Bowl last year, but went out in a wild-card game at home against San Francisco this season. Green Bay’s chances in the NFC North were derailed by an injury to Micah Parsons, but with Parsons leading the defense and Jordan Love leading the offense, Green Bay is a logical contender.
Four teams round out the top 10 in the odds, all at +1500: New England, Detroit, Kansas City and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Patriots were humbled in the Super Bowl but have a young, MVP runner-up at quarterback in Drake Maye. Kansas City has a lot of questions to answer in the offseason following a losing season and an ACL injury for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Can the Lions bounce back after a disappointing season? Can Justin Herbert finally break through in the postseason?
The three teams at the bottom of the title odds are the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. All three are +25000, which is 250-to-1 and implies they have a less than 1 percent chance of winning the next Super Bowl.
