Standard Chartered’s chief financial officer Diego De Giorgi, who had been seen as in contention to succeed chief executive Bill Winters at the bank, has resigned to work at US asset manager Apollo.
StanChart on Tuesday said De Giorgi would step down with immediate effect and be replaced by deputy chief financial officer Peter Burrill in the interim.
De Giorgi served as chief financial officer of StanChart for just over two years.
Apollo said De Giorgi would join the asset manager as a partner and head of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“De Giorgi will oversee a fast-growing region for the firm as it expands credit, equity and hybrid origination, as well as in wealth and retirement solutions,” said Apollo.
“We have known Diego for many years and believe he will be a terrific steward of business in this next phase, bringing significant industry experience and a European perspective,” said Apollo president Jim Zelter.
