Mumbai: Healthcare-focused private equity firm Somerset Indus Capital Partners on Wednesday announced an investment in Bengaluru-based NU Hospitals, a leading specialty hospital chain focused on nephrology and urology care.
This marks Somerset Indus Capital Partners’ third investment from its third fund and underscores its strategy of backing scalable, high-quality healthcare platforms in India.
Founded in 1999, NU Hospitals operates a specialty-led model in nephrology, urology, fertility and renal transplant services. The investment will be used to support the next phase of growth, including expansion into new markets and strengthening operational capabilities to cater to a larger patient base in India and overseas.
NU Hospitals has reported steady organic growth, supported by high doctor retention, robotics-enabled surgical capabilities and advanced infrastructure. The hospital chain also has a strong focus on medical education and research, running DNB programmes and publishing research annually. Its facilities hold multiple accreditations, including NABH, NABL, FEQH and ISAR.
Commenting on the investment, NU Hospitals Managing Director Dr Prasanna Venkatesh said the partnership would help the organisation expand access to specialised kidney and urology care while maintaining strong clinical governance.
Ramesh Kannan, Partner at Somerset Indus Capital Partners, said the firm was drawn to NU Hospitals’ ethical, doctor-led culture and its focus on addressing the growing burden of chronic kidney disease in India.
