Gold & Silver Prices Prediction From February 16 To February 20
According to analysts at SMC Global Securities, the precious sector faced a challenging week as a “risk-off” environment triggered a sharp retreat in prices, with gold ending the period nearly 1% lower and silver suffering a more dramatic fall of over 3%.
They explained that a primary catalyst behind this weakness was a broader rout in global equity markets, which forced investors into liquidity-driven selling and dragged gold below the psychological $5,000-per-ounce support level.
Also, sentiment weakened further after Wednesday’s U.S. employment data, as the labor market’s resilient start to 2026 signaled that the Federal Reserve
may continue with a “higher-for-longer” interest rate stance. Since bullion is a nonyielding asset, the possibility of delayed rate cuts creates a significant headwind for prices.
Analysts added that markets are now closely watching upcoming inflation data to gain clarity on the Fed’s policy trajectory, with expectations currently tilted toward two 25-basispoint reductions beginning around June. Physical demand trends showed a clear divergence between the two largest consuming regions. In India, local markets saw gold move to a discount for the first time in a month as rapid price fluctuations discouraged domestic buyers and led to a temporary slowdown in activity.
In contrast, China witnessed strong physical buying ahead of the Lunar New Year, helping provide a floor to global prices.
Looking ahead, analysts said, the directional bias for COMEX Gold will depend on whether prices hold the $4,900 support or break above the $5,150 resistance, while COMEX Silver is expected to remain highly volatile within a wide $65-$88 range. For domestic participants, MCX weekly projections stand at Rs 142,000-Rs 157,000 for gold and Rs 200,000- Rs 250,000 for silver.
