Davis Webb has served as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in Denver before becoming offensive coodinator.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton will turn over offensive play calling to new coordinator Davis Webb, Payton told reporters Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I think it’s going to help our team, and I’ll do whatever it takes to support him,” Payton said. “It’s not something I would do if I didn’t think it will help our team.”
Payton added that he will still call “some plays” on game days.
The 31-year-old Webb, who had served as the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach, was named offensive coordinator in February after the team fired Joe Lombardi. Webb had received head-coaching interest from other teams before his promotion with the Broncos.
Payton has been the Broncos’ offensive play caller for the three seasons he has been in Denver and did so as head coach of the New Orleans Saints for 15 seasons, winning the Super Bowl in 2009.
