The fallout began last year when Kashyap publicly made a series of derogatory remarks against Salman Khan and his family, while also alleging that the actor failed to clear his dues for writing the film. The statements quickly snowballed into a full-blown legal battle, grabbing headlines across the entertainment industry.

Refusing to stay silent, Salman Khan approached the court and filed a defamation suit against the Dabangg director. The legal move marked a turning point in the controversy, and the actor has now reportedly received major relief, with the court ruling in his favour and restraining Kashyap from making further defamatory comments.

Salman Khan Files Defamation Suit Against Abhinav Kashyap; Seeks ₹9 Cr Damage

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan had taken legal action against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, filing a defamation case after the director allegedly made offensive remarks about the actor and his family during multiple media interactions, as per reports. Along with the lawsuit, Khan demanded a permanent restraint on such statements, sought ₹9 crore as compensation, and asked for an unconditional public apology.

The case stemmed from a series of 26 video interviews and podcast appearances released between September and December 2025, in which Kashyap was accused of making what the suit described as false, damaging, and highly defamatory allegations. Apart from Kashyap, the legal complaint also named Khushboo Hazare and several leading social media platforms, holding them accountable for amplifying the content that allegedly harmed Salman Khan’s reputation.

On Friday, a court granted temporary relief to Salman Khan by restraining filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap from making or circulating any “derogatory” remarks against the actor and his family. As reported by PTI, the court made it clear that freedom of speech cannot be misused to target individuals with abusive or threatening language. Emphasising boundaries, the court observed that “the right to freedom of speech and expression doesn’t mean that one can use abusive and threatening language against any individual.”

The defamation suit also named several YouTube channels and social media content creators, holding them responsible for amplifying the controversial statements. The court noted that the remarks were “prima facie defamatory, derogatory, abusive and insulting in nature,” and had caused damage to the superstar’s public image. Stressing the importance of personal dignity, the court further stated, “Nobody can and nobody should make any defamatory statements against anybody’s family,” adding that every individual has the right to safeguard their reputation and privacy.
