Real Madrid are looking to sign a centre-back next summer, that much has been known for a while. They’ve long been credited with interest in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of the season, as well as Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who is reportedly close to renewing his deal with the Bundesliga champions. Marc Guehi, another name occasionally mentioned in that aspect, left Crystal Palace to join Manchester City last month.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real have now added Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero to the list of potential targets.
Romero was linked with Atletico Madrid last summer, but he ended up signing a new deal with Spurs, devised to keep him in North London until 2029. However, the 27-year-old is believed to have changed his mind about staying in England for so long, and his representatives have started sounding out possible destinations for the summer of 2026.
Apart from the two Madrid clubs, Barcelona are also thought to be keeping an eye on the situation.
