Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that veteran cornerback Marlon Humphrey is contemplating finger surgery this week, which could sideline him for a game or two. The Ravens play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Humphrey hurt his finger in last Friday’s practice. He started Sunday’s 27-19 win over the Minnesota Vikings and had a third-quarter interception while wearing a protective split on his hand. However, at times it looked like he was trying to tackle with one arm to protect his finger. He was removed from the game ahead of the Vikings’ final drive in the fourth quarter.

Humphrey said after the game that he’s never had a finger injury like this, and he wasn’t sure what it would mean going forward for his status.

“He might need to get something done to tighten it up,” Harbaugh said Monday. “He could play right away maybe, or it may take a week to get him back from that if he does decide to do a surgery. It will be only a week at the most, is what I was told. When you say a week, then I’m thinking, maybe two (weeks) or maybe none.

“If he decides to play with it and keep it wrapped up, he can play in this game. That’s where he’s at right now.”

The Ravens entered Sunday’s game coming off a week where their entire 53-man roster fully participated in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Humphrey was not the only injury to emerge in Minnesota.

Harbaugh confirmed that wide receiver Rashod Bateman, who left the U.S. Bank Stadium locker room in a medical boot, sprained his ankle on what the Ravens felt was a hip-drop tackle by Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers in the third quarter. Harbaugh said they’ll know more about Bateman’s status later in the week, but he said he expects the wide receiver to be “fine.”

Harbaugh confirmed that rookie inside linebacker Jay Higgins, one of the team’s core special-teamers, will also miss time with a knee injury. Harbaugh said it isn’t season ending, but a multi-week injury would put injured reserve in play.
