Comedian Rajpal Yadav, known for years of comic roles in Hindi cinema, has entered Tihar Jail after a cheque bounce case involving about Rs 2.5 crores. Before surrendering, Rajpal said with visible distress, “There’s no other way out, there are no friends”. The Delhi High Court earlier rejected Rajpal’s request for more time to surrender in the cheque bounce matter. With the deadline fixed by the court remaining unchanged, Rajpal appeared before the Tihar Jail authorities in Delhi and submitted to custody as ordered by the court.
Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case details and key figures
The case centres on unpaid dues of roughly Rs 2.5 crores linked to a dishonoured cheque. Rajpal had tried to secure an extension from the Delhi High Court but received no relief. The decision left Rajpal with no legal option except to follow the court’s surrender direction.
Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case and Rajpal’s financial struggle
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama before going to jail, Rajpal described the financial strain. Rajpal said, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain (sir, what to do? I don’t have the money to pay back). Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (can’t see another way out).” The words reflected Rajpal’s sense of helplessness.
When Rajpal was asked why help was not sought from wealthy friends from the film industry, including Priyadarshan, who has directed Rajpal in many films and reportedly earns over Rs. 20 crores per film. Rajpal replied, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (sir, we are all on our own over here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”
Rajpal Yadav’s return to Tihar Jail in the cheque bounce case marks a difficult chapter for the long-serving actor. The court’s refusal to extend the surrender date, the unpaid Rs 2.5 crores, and Rajpal’s own words together show a legal and financial crisis that Rajpal now faces alone.
