Prudential has appointed Sir Douglas Flint to succeed Baroness Shriti Vadera, who helped the insurer make a strategic shift to its Asia and Africa business.
Flint, who spent more than two decades at HSBC, is expected to join Prudential’s board in March, according to a company statement. Vadera will retire from the board in May.
“Douglas brings extremely valuable expertise to the board and his deep knowledge of Asia is particularly important for the company,” said Prudential chief executive Anil Wadhwani.
Flint, 70, has spent more than 40 years in the financial services industry. He has been the chair of Aberdeen Group since 2019 and of IP Group since 2018.
He has also spent more than two decades at HSBC, including serving as finance director and as chair.
“Being able to help shape the next stage of Prudential’s development is a great privilege,” Flint said. “This is such an exciting time to be joining.”
