Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ Adds Callum Vinson to Cast

The series adaptation of the God of War video game franchise at Prime Video has cast another key role.

Callum Vinson has joined the series as Atreus, the 10-year-old son of the title character, Kratos (Ryan Hurst). God of War will follow the storyline of the two most recent games in the franchise, with Kratos and Atreus going on a journey to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’ late wife and Atreus’ mother.

The show’s cast so far also includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

Atreus is described as a boy who grew up “in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother Faye. He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who knows little about him in return. Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.”

Vinson played Amanda Seyfried’s son in Peacock’s Long Bright River and has a role in the forthcoming third season of The Night Agent at Netflix. Both of those shows, like God of War, are produced by Sony Pictures TV. He’s also set to play the young Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake, Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th prequel series that’s due to premiere later this year. He is repped by Rebel Creative Group and Innovative Artists.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are producing God of War in association with PlayStation Productions and showrunner Ronald D. Moore’s Tall Ship Productions. Moore executive produces with Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia and Ben McGinnis are co-EPs.
