Prasad Prabhakar Oak Puts Marathi Cinema On The Global Map; Creates World Record!

Marathi actor Prasad Prabhakar Oak has secured a global record for a single film, highlighting regional cinema on an international stage. The Global Book of Excellence, England, has officially listed Oak for receiving the highest number of awards won by an actor for one Marathi film, confirmed on 14 January 2026.

The recognition stems from Oak’s work in the 2022 Marathi film Dharamveer, for which Oak received 15 awards for acting. Critics widely praised the performance, and the honours created a fresh reference point for acting quality in Indian regional films, placing sustained attention on Marathi storytelling and performance craft.

Prasad Prabhakar Oak Dharamveer record and global recognition

The Global Book of Excellence, England entry builds on earlier acknowledgement from the India Book of Records. Oak views both honours as highly prestigious, and the combined recognition fixes this achievement within formal archives, while also validating years of steady work in Marathi cinema across diverse roles and genres.

Through Dharamveer, Oak portrayed prominent political leader Anand Dighe, who is remembered for social work and strong public connect. The character is seen as larger than life by supporters. The film attracted wide audiences, emerged as one of 2022’s major Marathi box office successes, and later led to a sequel that extended the story’s reach.

Prasad Prabhakar Oak Dharamveer role and acting preparation

Oak has described the part as a turning point, especially because it arrived late in a long career. Dharamveer was Oak’s 96th film, yet the project offered a rare title role. The responsibility of playing Anand Dighe weighed heavily due to the emotional bond many followers maintain with the leader’s memory.

“I’m speechless. It’s a proud moment. I’m thankful to my entire team—the writer, director, my family, my audience, and the jury members of all the awards bestowed upon me. I had never dreamt of a film offering me the opportunity to play a title role. Dharamveer was my 96th film, and portraying Anand Dighe—considered a godly figure by thousands—was a responsibility I carried with utmost sincerity.”

Oak explained that preparation for Dharamveer demanded detailed research and close observation despite never meeting Anand Dighe. Oak studied visual material and spoke with people who knew Dighe well, focusing on voice, stride, gestures, and daily behaviour, and compiled notes to ensure the performance felt authentic for long-time admirers.

“I never met him (Anand Dighe) personally, but through photographs and conversations with people close to him, I observed his walk, talk, and mannerisms closely and prepared detailed notes. The love the film received, the reviews praising my performance, and the countless congratulatory calls were overwhelming. While I missed out on the National Award and felt a little sad, my biggest takeaway is knowing that I worked with honesty and dedication, and God has been kind.”
