Authorities arrested former NBA guard Patrick Beverley in Fort Bend County (Texas) on Friday and charged him with assault of a family violence/household member, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies were dispatched to a residence at 4:50 a.m. ET and learned that a situation between relatives led “to a family violence incident.”
Authorities also said Beverley was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail with a bond set at $40,000. He has posted bond, according to multiple reports.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the police did not release any additional details. Beverley’s lawyer did not immediately respond to The Athletic’s request for comment.
Friday evening, Beverley wrote on X, “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well.”
Beverley, 37, played 12 seasons in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers drafted him in the second round in 2009, but he played basketball in Europe for three years. He started his NBA career in the 2012-13 season with the Houston Rockets and spent five seasons with the team.
In the summer of 2017, Houston traded Beverley to the Los Angeles Clippers. He went on to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks.
Beverley averaged 8.8 career points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 rebounds across 666 regular-season games while also appearing in 71 playoff games.
