Nvidia’s stock is no longer this analyst’s top pick in chips. Why Broadcom is his new favored play.

Nvidia Corp. is undoubtedly the king of artificial-intelligence chips, but as its customers lean toward customized chips and seek to reduce reliance on the chip maker, one analyst has his eye on an emerging competitor.

Amid a flurry of deals by OpenAI to secure massive amounts of computing power, Jefferies’s Blayne Curtis sees “upside across the entire AI universe,” including for Nvidia

NVDA, which he said “remains the leader,” with a growing range of products for the AI buildout. In his view, however, custom chip maker Broadcom Inc. AVGO “has a greater magnitude of estimate upside.”
