Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić scored 55 points in a 130-116 road win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Intuit Dome. In an impressive move, he posted 52 of them through the first three quarters.

Including the playoffs, it marked Jokić’s fifth career 50-point game, but the first that came in a Nuggets win. Last season, Jokić tallied a career-high 61 points with 11 rebounds and 10 assists — the most points in NBA history in a triple-double — in a 140-139 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Wednesday’s win moved the Nuggets to 9-2, while the Clippers dropped to 3-8. The two teams met for the first time since Denver eliminated LA in seven games in the Western Conference quarterfinals last season.

The Nuggets lost a 10-point lead in the first half and trailed by 10 just before halftime. But Jokić, after a 25-point first quarter, made all seven of his field goal attempts in the third quarter.

He finished with 12 rebounds and six assists on 18-of-23 shooting.
