Bayern Munich have confirmed that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a calf injury on Saturday.
Neuer was replaced by Jonas Urbig at half-time of Bayern’s 3-0 win away to Werder Bremen, a result that helped restore their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, initially said that the 39-year-old’s substitution was a precautionary measure and the injury was nothing dramatic.
A scan on Sunday, however, showed the tear was more serious than initially expected, though Bayern did not specify how long Neuer would be on the injury table for.
“FC Bayern will have to make do without captain Manuel Neuer for the time being,” Bayern said in a statement.
“The keeper suffered a torn muscle fibre in his left calf in Saturday’s Bundesliga match at Werder Bremen.
“This was confirmed by a thorough examination carried out by FC Bayern’s medical unit.”
Get well soon, Manu!

Neuer has made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, keeping five clean sheets, which is the joint-fifth highest tally in the top flight in 2025-26.
It is not the first time that Neuer has struggled with a calf injury, with the veteran shot-stopper missing 10 games in all competitions last campaign with a similar issue.
Early reports have suggested that Bayern could be without their number one goalkeeper for up to three weeks.
Bayern take on Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday before making the trip to Westfalenstadion on February 28 to take on second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
