Nashville SC 5-0 Atletico Ottawa (7-0 agg): Inter Miami next up in Champions Cup

Nashville SC will take on MLS rivals Inter Miami in the next round of the Champions Cup after sealing a thumping 7-0 aggregate win over Atletico Ottawa.

Star striker Sam Surridge, who scored twice as Nashville kick-started their MLS campaign by thrashing the New England Revolution last weekend, was left on the bench on Tuesday, but his team still surged to a 5-0 win.

Alex Muyl and Jordan Knight had Nashville 2-0 up by half-time at GEODIS Park, where Woobens Pacius, Jack Maher and Ahmed Qasem were on target after the interval.

Next up is a last-16 tie with reigning MLS Cup champions Miami.

Nashville went down to Lionel Messi’s team in the first round of last season’s MLS playoffs.

Los Angeles FC also booked their Champions Cup progress, with Nkosi Tafari’s goal enough to see off Real Espana 1-0, rounding off a 7-1 aggregate triumph.

Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense are LAFC’s next opponents.

Data Debrief: Sharing responsibility

It really was a team effort from Nashville, who had only 11 shots, but were extremely clinical. Their 3.2 expected goals (xG) also shows the quality of the opportunities they created.

Five Nashville players had two attempts each, while Matthew Corcoran and Bryan Acosta split the creative burden, crafting three chances apiece.

Ottawa, meanwhile, were limited to just four shots, which combined for only 0.22 xG.
