Liverpool vs Manchester City live updates: Premier League team news, predictions, more

It hasn’t been a good season for Liverpool.

Their title defence started relatively well but the wheels came off before Christmas and their ambitions of defending their crown are dead in the water.

All is not lost, though, as they are battling well in the Champions League and are still in a decent position to secure a return to European football’s top table next season.

They boosted their chances of a top-five finish last weekend with a convincing victory against Newcastle at Anfield.

Former Everton winger Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the first half but Hugo Ekitike, a player Newcastle tried to sign in the summer, scored twice in two minutes to give the hosts a half-time lead.

Liverpool only strengthened that lead after the break with a goal from Florian Wirtz before Ibrahima Konate added the rubber stamp in stoppage time.
