Klint Kubiak confirms he will be Raiders’ next head coach after Seahawks win Super Bowl

With Super Bowl confetti still fluttering through the air behind him, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak confirmed for the first time Sunday night that he will be the Las Vegas Raiders’ next head coach.

Kubiak told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini that he was planning to enjoy the celebrations on Sunday evening before beginning his next chapter on Monday.

“You guys know I’m going to Las Vegas, so I’m fired up about it,” Kubiak told NFL Network’s Stacey Dales on the field with a grin. “But tonight, for one more night — hell yeah, I’m going. Of course I’m going.”

A league source told The Athletic last week that the Raiders were focused on bringing in Kubiak to lead the team next season. An official announcement wasn’t expected until after the Super Bowl, which the Seahawks won over the New England Patriots, 29-13.

The Raiders will be Kubiak’s sixth different franchise in as many seasons. In 2021, the now 38-year-old became the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive coordinator for Mike Zimmer’s final year as head coach. After stints with the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, he joined the New Orleans Saints as their offensive coordinator in 2024.

Kubiak joined the Seahawks last offseason, taking over an offense featuring wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who went on to win Offensive Player of the Year, and newly crowned Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who is the first running back to win the award in nearly three decades. Smith-Njigba led the league with 1,793 receiving yards during the regular season and was a unanimous first-team All-Pro. Kubiak also oversaw the continued growth of quarterback Sam Darnold, a first-round pick-turned journeyman who captained the Seahawks to their second Super Bowl win.

Las Vegas, which has the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, fired veteran head coach Pete Carroll in early January after his sole season with the team yielded a league-worst 3-14 record. Kubiak will be the franchise’s fifth full-time head coach since 2021.

Carroll, coincidentally, was Seattle’s head coach from 2010 to 2023, and guided the Seahawks to two Super Bowls, winning the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy in 2014.

The Raiders also interviewed former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll and Broncos passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Davis Webb, among others.

Next season will be Kubiak’s first as an NFL head coach. His father, Gary Kubiak, served as head coach for the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013 and the Denver Broncos from 2015 to 2016, while his younger brother, Klay, is the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. Another brother, Klein, is a scout for the Dallas Cowboys.
