Kelvin Yu Signs Sony Pictures Television Overall Deal (EXCLUSIVE)


Kelvin Yu has inked a multi-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, Variety has learned exclusively.

Under the deal, Yu will develop and produce scripted comedy, drama, and animated series for the independent studio.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Kelvin, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him join our Sony family,” said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “He is revered for his narrative genius, and he brings remarkable range in every position, every medium, in front of and behind the camera across drama, comedy and animation. His work embodies the kind of storytelling we are excited to produce, rich with complexity, humor, and authenticity.”

Yu is renowned for his work on the hit Fox animated series “Bob’s Burgers,” sharing in the show’s win for best animated program at the 2017 Emmy Awards. He has likewise been part of the show’s producing team that has received seven nominations in the category in total. He is also known for creating the Disney+ series “American Born Chinese,” on which he was also the showrunner, and has worked on the Apple TV+ series “Central Park.” Yu is also an accomplished actor, having starred in shows like “Master of None,” “The Afterparty,” and “Dying for Sex.” In film, he is known for roles in “Milk” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”

“I am so excited and honestly really flattered to be joining the Sony family,” said Yu. “They’re making bold, boundary-pushing TV, and I just feel incredibly lucky I get to be a part of that.”
