Karim Adeyemi will be fined by Borussia Dortmund for his reaction to being substituted during Friday’s 2-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach, the club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has said.

The 23-year-old forward was withdrawn after an hour with his side 1-0 up.

He immediately walked past the home dugout and appeared to be heading towards the tunnel and back to the dressing room. Kehl caught his arm and exchanged some words before directing him back towards the bench.

Kehl said after the match, as cited by the Associated Press,: “I told him, ‘You’re not going to the locker room, sit down’. and to be honest the substitution was partly justified. Karim didn’t have a good game.

“It just doesn’t work like this. The coach makes a decision and the players need to accept that. We don’t want to see this reaction and so he’ll get a fine for that.”

Adeyemi has recorded six goals and three assists in 22 appearances for Dortmund this season, typically operating either alongside or behind striker Serhou Guirassy, while also, at times, playing on the right wing.

Dortmund’s victory on Friday took them six points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who have a game in hand.
