Leicester City are set to reshuffle their senior management team with director of football Jon Rudkin taking on a new role at the club and a sporting director coming in.
Rudkin has been the club’s director of football since 2016 but has been the target of fan frustrations for the past three years as Leicester have twice been relegated from the Premier League.
Chief executive Susan Whelan also left the club earlier this season as chairman Aiyawat Srivaddhanaprabha has taken a more hands-on role in rejuvenating Leicester after a series of setbacks.
Khun Top, as he is known, has been looking to restructure the management of the club for some time and the hiring of a sporting director to work closely on the football strategy of the club has been muted for a while, even before Leicester’s unconvincing start to their Championship campaign this season.
Rudkin, who was subject to terrace chants at Carrow Road that drew condemnation from the club and fan groups, will still remain an influential figure because of his strong relationship with Khun Top.
Khun Top is also set to bring in a new interim chief executive to replace Whelan as he overhauls the decision-making processes at the club in an attempt to get Leicester back on track after the shock of relegation from the Premier League in 2023, when the club was operating with the seventh highest budget in the division.
As a result, Leicester have faced significant issues around profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and face three charges from the Premier League for the 2023-24 season that could bring a points deduction this season and other sanctions.
Manager Marti Cifuentes was given no money to spend in the last transfer window while £50million was brought in through player sales following a second relegation last season.
