Korean star Ji Chang-wook and Japanese actor Mio Imada will lead the cast of cross-cultural romantic comedy “Merry Berry Love” (working title), set to premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
The series follows a struggling Korean spatial designer and a strawberry farmer who discover romance on a remote Japanese island. The project marks the first partnership between Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM and Japan’s Nippon TV.
Disney+ unveiled the title during its originals preview event at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Thursday. The series is currently in production across locations in Korea and Japan.
Changwook (“The Manipulated,” “The Worst of Evil”) portrays spatial designer Lee Yubin, while Imada (“Tokyo Revengers”) plays strawberry farmer Karin Shirahama. Kim Soojung (“Semantic Error”) directs from a script by Lee Jaeyoon (“Divorce Insurance”).
CJ ENM (“Parasite,” “Queen of Tears”) serves as developer and producer, with Nippon TV (“Mother,” “Woman”) co-producing. The series will air on Nippon TV in Japan in 2026 and stream globally on Disney+ as part of the strategic collaboration between Nippon Television Holdings and The Walt Disney Company (Japan).
The Disney+ originals preview showcased Japanese, Korean and global series slated for the platform through 2026 and beyond, featuring appearances from entertainment figures across Hollywood, Korea and Japan.
Nippon TV is one of Japan’s leading multiplatform entertainment company and owner of streaming service Hulu in Japan. The company owns nearly 90% of its content IP and has been active in international distribution through anime, formats and co-production partnerships. One of their biggest successes is the Emmy-winning “Dragons’ Den”/”Shark Tank” format.
