Liverpool are likely to be without Jeremie Frimpong for another week as he completes the final stages of his recovery from a groin injury.
The 25-year-old right-back has missed the last four games and is expected to remain on the sidelines for the trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Liverpool are carefully managing Frimpong’s return after a stop-start season where he suffered two hamstring injuries before the latest setback. Head coach Arne Slot has played a number of midfielders at right-back this season and will consider his options in the days ahead.
Curtis Jones filled in against Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend and Dominik Szoboszlai has also played there on numerous occasions. Joe Gomez is fit having featured in the last two games as a substitute although Liverpool are also managing his minutes after an equally-frustrating season.
The right-back position has been a problem for the Premier League champions ever since Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid last summer.
With Conor Bradley out for the season and Wataru Endo — another makeshift option — facing a lengthy period on the sidelines, Slot has been forced into many defensive changes. Liverpool also did not proceed on a late move for the versatile Lutsharel Geertruida, who was identified as a player who could cover multiple positions for the remainder of the season.
