The internet says Cameron Mathison is checking out of General Hospital, after having been part of the soap opera since 2021.
But that’s not what’s actually happening. Entertainment Weekly has learned that the actor is staying in Port Charles for now.
The rumors appear to have taken off via the AI summary of a Google search, according to Soap Opera Digest.

But thankfully for fans, Mathison’s Drew Cain remains on the daytime TV staple, even after the character’s wife Willow, who’s played by Katelyn MacMullen, stuck him with a syringe last week.
It’s been a rough week for General Hospital devotees, who not only might have read the rumors about Mathison, but whose beloved show was pre-empted Tuesday in favor of President Donald Trump’s remarks from the White House reflecting on his first year in his second term.
The move especially stung, because the episode that was delayed was the follow-up to a cliffhanger. They had last seen that unexpected moment between Mathison’s Drew and MacMullen’s unstable Willow, who stabbed him from behind. They watched the dramatic scene in which Drew fell to the floor and blacked out.
Mathison has had good things too about his experience on the soap opera, especially the way that his costars have supported him after he lost his home in the Los Angeles fires.
“My GH family has been phenomenal,” he told Access Hollywood in April. “And that made tons of difference. It’s unbelievable the love and support and kindness and generosity that has been given to myself and thousands of others going through it.”

Aside from his current role, Mathison is also known for his work on daytime’s All My Children, along with appearances on shows such as Hope & Faith, Desperate Housewives, Drop Dead Diva, and the game show Beat the Bridge, which he hosts. He also regularly appears in TV movies.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
