“Survival of the Thickest” Season 3 is officially in production, with the Netflix comedy series adding a major roster of guest stars.
As previously announced, the third season will be the show’s last. To help send it off in style are the following guest stars: Wanda Sykes (“The Upshaws,” Please and Thank You Tour), D.L. Hughley (“The DL Hughley Show”), Ashley Graham (“Chicago” on Broadway), Ronny Chieng (“The Daily Show”), Wyatt Cenac (“Problem Areas,” “Medicine for Melancholy”), Jenna Lyons, Ice-T (“Law & Order: SVU”), LaQuan Smith, Charles Harbison, and Ashley Romans (“Y: The Last Man,” “The Pitt”).
The guests will appear alongside series stars and co-creator Michelle Buteau and returning stars Tone Bell, Liza Treyger, Peppermint, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Anthony Michael Lopez, Garcelle Beauvais, and RonReaco Lee. In addition, Marouane Zotti, who plays Luca, has been promoted from guest star to series regular for Season 3.
Buteau is not resting on her laurels in the final season, with the actress and comedian set to make her directorial debut with the season’s fifth episode. Her fellow co-creator Danielle Sanchez-Witzel will make her own directorial debut with Episode 3.
“Survival of the Thickest” is inspired by Buteau’s book of essays of the same name. Buteau stars as Mavis Beaumont, a plus-size Black woman in New York trying to make a name for herself as a stylist.
Buteau co-created the series with Sanchez-Witzel, with both serving as executive producers. Amy Aniobi is the showrunner and executive producer on Season 3. A24 and Anne Hong from Mosaic executive produce as well. Kim Nguyen and Aniobi are also directors on the final season.
