EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami — the voices behind Huntr/x in Netflix’s smash hit “KPop Demon Hunters” — continued their U.K. awards show domination by performing “Golden” at the BRIT Awards on Saturday night.
Following Harry Styles’ opening performance, the trio gave an explosive rendition of “Golden” outside of the Co-op Live venue in Manchester. As they hit the first chorus, fireworks shot towards the skies behind them and didn’t let up, making for an outsized spectacle. Much like with recent performances of the song, they traded off portions of the tune before coming together for the song’s conclusion.
The trio is fresh off their performance at last week’s BAFTA Film Awards, which marked their first outside of the U.S. Though “KPop Demon Hunters” was deemed ineligible for the BAFTAs due to not meeting the theatrical release requirement in the U.K., Huntr/x is up for two awards at the BRITs: best international group and international song for “Golden.” Their BRIT Awards stop also marks the first-ever performance by a K-pop artist at the awards show.
“We are beyond thrilled to be nominated for two BRIT Awards this year celebrating the music of ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’” the trio said in a statement when their BRITs performance was announced. “We can’t wait to bring a special performance to Manchester. See you soon U.K. fans!”
EJAE, Nuna and Ami’s BRIT Awards performance was filmed ahead of time in front of invited fans outside Manchester’s Co-op Live, where this year’s ceremony is taking place. Celebrating the best in British music, this year’s BRIT Awards also feature performances from Harry Styles and Olivia Dean. Dean and Lola Young lead the nominees with five apiece.
Next up for the “KPop Demon Hunters” crew is the Oscars on March 15, where “Golden” is nominated for best original song and the film is up for best animated feature.
