Snowboard slopestyle is where the Winter Games most closely resemble a skatepark. Riders flow through rails and jumps, linking tricks that get judged on difficulty, execution, amplitude and style.

It is also where conditions matter as much as confidence. Heavy snow forced organizers to postpone Tuesday’s women’s slopestyle final. The men’s final remains scheduled for Wednesday, with best-of-three runs scored by a single best result.

The men’s medal event in Livigno features a real Team USA footprint: Three Americans made it into the final, headlined by 2018 Olympic champion Red Gerard, who placed 11th in qualifying. There’s also 17-year-old Ollie Martin, who already has a near-podium finish at these Games after finishing fourth in men’s big air. Colorado-born Jake Canter has been on the U.S. slopestyle pro team since 2019 and effectively locked up his Olympic place with a World Cup slopestyle win in Aspen in January.

Mark McMorris is the headline threat. The Canadian qualified third and is chasing a fourth straight Olympic slopestyle medal after rebounding from a concussion suffered in big air practice. Behind him is a stacked field led by surprise qualifying winner Dane Menzies (New Zealand) and Beijing 2022 slopestyle silver medalist Su Yiming, who already has big air bronze at these Games.

In this event, speed into the takeoffs changes with wind and snow, and a run that looks identical on TV can feel completely different under a board. One perfect run can erase everything else — and deliver a gold medal.
