Even though the makers, KVN Productions initially filed a lawsuit against CBFC, they later withdrew it after the film was submitted to the revising committee of censor board. Jana Nayagan is now expected to hit the theatres by the third week of February 2026. Meanwhile, the delay in the Vijay starrer’s release has left the distributors with a major financial loss.

If the recent updates are to be believed, the long delay in the Jana Nayagan release has caused a major financial distress to the distributors of the film, especially in Tamil Nadu. According to the reports, the Tamil Nadu distributors alone have faced a loss of over a whopping ₹100 crore, as a result of the hurdles faced by Thalapathy Vijay’s final film.
For the uninitiated, this is caused mainly because of paying massive interest rate for the finances of the distributions. While considering the same, the distributors across the globe are now suffering a massive loss of around ₹200 crore. The theatre owners have also faced some exceptional loss during the Pongal 2026 season, as none of the other releases managed to make up for the absence of Jana Nayagan.
Jana Nayagan, which marks the final outing of Thalapathy Vijay in films before his retirement, is expected to rewrite many existing box office records of the Tamil film industry. According to the trade experts, the H Vinoth directorial is clearly not impacted severely by the long delay in its release, and is expected to make an extraordinary opening at the box office whenever it releases.
