French Romcom ‘The Doll’ Starring Vincent Macaigne Sells Widely

Urban Sales has closed a raft of deals on “The Doll” (“La Poupée Vertigo”), a French romantic comedy starring Vincent Macaigne (“Maria”), Cécile de France (“The New Pope”) and Zoé Marchal (“Overdose”).

Sophie Beaulieu’s debut feature, “The Doll” is one of the many romantic movies buzzing at the European Film Market this year.

The film has been bought by Neue Visionen (Germany and Austria), Vertigo (Benelux), HBO Central Europe, Caramel (Spain) and Capella (CIS). Julieta Bowyer’s newly launched company Global Pulse also picked it up for inflight worldwide.

It will be released in France on April 22 by Ad Vitam, which recently handled “The Secret Agent,” “A Private Life” and “The Little Sister.”

“The Doll” stars Macaigne as Rémi, a synthetic turf seller who has been sharing his life with a life-sized doll named Audrey (Marchal) ever since his last breakup. When Patricia (de France), a temp worker, joins his company, Audrey mysteriously comes to life, setting off a series of surreal and transformative events that will shake up Rémi’s life for the better.

Urban’s head of sales Florencia Gil previously said the film “playfully addresses genre clichés through a witty and unexpected love triangle.”

“The Doll” is produced by Novoprod Cinéma, and is co-produced by Atelier de Production, 31 Juin Films, Les films du Parc, Borsalino Prods. and Paprika Films.

Urban Sales’ EFM slate also includes Gabe Klinger’s Brazilian film “Isabel,” which stars Marina Person and is playing at the Berlinale. The film is produced by Rodrigo Teixeira via RT Features, the banner behind Walter Salles’s Oscar-winning “I’m Still Here.”
