LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska found its quarterback in the transfer portal. Again.
Less than 24 hours after Kenny Minchey, the Notre Dame transfer, flipped his commitment from the Huskers to Kentucky and signed with the Wildcats, Anthony Colandrea has signed with Nebraska, according to Noah Reisenfeld and Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA Sports.
Colandrea was the 2025 Mountain West offensive player of the year. He threw for 3,459 yards on 275-of-417 passing (65.9 percent) with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Listed at 6-foot, 205 pounds, Colandrea started 17 games in 2023 and 2024 at Virginia, setting UVA freshman records for completions and passing yards.
His 1,958 yards through the air in 2023 were the most by a true freshman in the Power 5.
Colandrea enters a Nebraska QB picture that includes TJ Lateef, a returning four-game starter who took over for Dylan Raiola after the former five-star prospect suffered a broken leg against USC on Nov. 1.
The Monday night drama with Minchey threatened to curb Nebraska’s momentum in the portal as it looks to sign a large class this month. Coach Matt Rhule, entering his fourth season, is 19-19 after consecutive 7-6 finishes.
However, the Huskers pivoted quickly, bringing Colandrea to Lincoln for a visit Tuesday and sealing the deal.
Colandrea adds a dynamic offensive piece under coordinator Dana Holgorsen. The QB rushed for 649 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior at UNLV in leading the Rebels to a 10-win season.
He has one season of eligibility remaining.
