Former CSK player retires from BBL to join English Team

Australian
fast
bowler
Andrew
Tye
has
announced
his
immediate
retirement
from
the
Big
Bash
League
to
join
Yorkshire
County
Cricket
Club
on
a
two-year
contract
for
the
Vitality
Blast.

The
39-year-old
death-bowling
specialist
leaves
the
BBL
as
the
second-highest
wicket-taker
in
its
history.
Known
for
his
lethal
knuckleball,
he
was
a
key
figure
for
the
Perth
Scorchers,
helping
them
win
multiple
titles
over
more
than
a
decade.

Tye
is
currently
playing
for
Melbourne
Renegades
in
this
BBL
season,
and
his
opportunities
have
been
few
and
far
between.
Ahead
of
the
final
two
matches,
the
Australian
pacer
opened
up
on
his
decision
to
leave
BBL,
where
has
picked
up
162
wickets
and
has
been
a
key
part
of
Perth
Scorchers’ four
title
wins.

“Having
known
that
my
opportunities
were
starting
to
dry
up
a
little
bit…
it
was
an
opportunity
I
couldn’t
pass
up,” Tye
said
in
an
interview
with
Fox
Cricket.

Tye
also
had
a
notable
IPL
career
as
well.
He
was
briefly
signed
by
Chennai
Super
Kings
in
the
2015
auction
for
his
death-over
skills,
though
he
did
not
play
any
matches
that
season.
After
CSK
was
banned
for
two
years,
he
played
for
the
Gujarat
Lions,
Kings
XI
Punjab
and
Rajasthan
Royals.
The
39-year-old
has
played
30
IPL
matches
and
has
42
wickets
to
his
name,
with
his
last
appearance
in
the
competition
coming
in
2022
for
the
Lucknow
Super
Giants.

Having
previously
played
for
Gloucestershire,
Durham,
and
Northamptonshire
in
England
(86
Blast
wickets
across
spells),
Tye
returns
to
county
cricket
with
fresh
energy.

He
expressed
excitement
about
the
move:
“It’s
a
real
privilege
to
sign
for
Yorkshire.
I’m
looking
forward
to
adding
to
the
club’s
proud
Australian
tradition.”

At
39,
Tye
remains
one
of
T20
cricket’s
most
experienced
and
effective
bowlers
and
will
be
aiming
to
march
towards
his
twilight
days
with
some
memorable
performances.
