Expelled AIADMK Leader VK Sasikala Signals Comeback On Jayalalithaa Birth Anniversary, Party Before 2026 Polls

Expelled AIADMK leader VK Sasikala on Tuesday hinted at a major political step, saying an announcement could arrive during celebrations marking the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. Her remarks have once again stirred debate in the state’s political circles about a possible return to active politics through a new party.

Sasikala May From New Party

Statement During Jayalalithaa Tribute

Addressing reporters during the commemorative programme, Sasikala said, “Today, there is an event for Amma’s birthday. We are conducting an event for her birthday in which good news will come.”

The comment quickly drew attention as it comes at a time when speculation about her political plans has intensified. Before speaking, she paid floral tributes to party founder M. G. Ramachandran and to former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.

Observers believe the “good news” remark could point to the formation of a fresh political organisation, especially after her removal from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Political Journey and Expulsion

Sasikala once held the position of acting general secretary of the AIADMK and was widely known as Jayalalithaa’s closest associate. Her influence in the party was considerable during Jayalalithaa’s tenure. However, her conviction in the disproportionate assets case led to her expulsion and effectively halted her formal role in the organisation.

In recent weeks she has also met supporters in Chennai, a move seen as groundwork for a potential political re-entry ahead of elections.

Election Season in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu’s 234-seat Assembly will vote in the first half of 2026. The ruling alliance led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is preparing to seek another term, highlighting its governance record and its ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’ narrative against the BJP-AIADMK combine.

Adding a new dimension to the contest, actor-turned-politician Vijay has launched his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which is expected to attract younger voters and complicate electoral calculations.

Recall of 2021 Results

In the 2021 Assembly polls, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 133 seats, while the Congress secured 18. The PMK took five seats, the VCK four, and other parties eight, giving the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance a total of 159 seats.

The NDA bloc captured 75 seats, with the AIADMK emerging as the largest party in the alliance with 66 seats. Sasikala’s possible move now has the potential to reshape alliances and voter equations before the 2026 election battle.
