EXCL! Shehzaadi Hai Tu Dil Ki Fame Ishu Tomar On Playing Bhanu: Without A Strong Villain, Hero Doesn’t Shine

Actor Ishu Tomar currently appearing in the Star Plus drama series Shehzaadi Hai Tu Dil Ki, where he portrays the character Bhanu, an antagonist. The actor talks about his views on getting typecast and playing a villain onscreen.

Ask him if he feels playing a negative role can get him typecast in future. Sharing his thoughts on same, he replied, “Yes, typecasting is a real thing. Once you play a strong negative character, people sometimes start seeing you in that space only. It can be harder for them to immediately visualize you as a romantic lead or a softer character. But at the end of the day, a role is a role. A powerful villain is as important as the hero – because without a strong antagonist, the hero doesn’t shine. Both are connected. And as an actor, my focus is on my performance. If you do your craft honestly and consistently, you can break any typecast over time. When your role is very strong, you are always excited and playing grey on screen are always intresting.”

He continued, “What excites me is the power dynamic. Grey characters often control situations, manipulate emotions, and drive the narrative. It’s interesting to explore that influence and understand how far someone can go when ambition overrides morality.”

Talking ahead about the kind of roles he look forward to play in future. He shared, “I’m open to everything, but I’m looking for roles that have depth and intensity. Characters with strong arcs – whether positive, grey, or negative – as long as they leave an impact. I don’t want to just appear on screen, I want to be remembered.”

Apart from TV, Ishu also wish to act and explore other mediums. He’s looks forward to films and web. “I’ve already worked in films and vertical formats, and I truly enjoy exploring different mediums. Each platform has its own grammar and audience. If given the opportunity, I would love to work across television, web, and films – because as an actor, growth comes from adapting to different storytelling styles,” he concluded.

He made his professional debut in the South Indian film Seemaraja (2018) and has since appeared in major projects like the Rajinikanth-starrer Darbar (2020) and shows such as Sasumaa Ne Meri Kadar Na Jaani and Pukaar.
