Mopping-capable robot vacuums aren’t a new concept. There are plenty of them on the market, ranging from simple vibrating mopping pads to spinning brush-head types. More recently, we’ve seen a lot of roller mops with a brushroll system that self-cleans with fresh water as it mops. Usually found on higher-end models, Eufy’s affordable new Omni C28 brings the brush roll to the $800 price.

What’s new with the Omni C28
The Omni C28 brush roller shouldn’t tangle with either pet or human hair.
Eufy’s C-series tends to be the company’s midpriced models, while still offering a good balance of premium features. The $700 Eufy Omni C20 (currently on sale for $350), for instance, offers an all-in-one base station and a very slim 3.35-inch body that can fit under low furniture. However, it has the more traditional spinning mop rollers, with 180 rotations per minute and 6 newtons of downward pressure.
However, for those who aren’t familiar with these brush types, higher-end robot vacuums are moving toward brush-roll mopping, since they offer better scrubbing and mess removal. In addition to the new mop type, the big difference with the C28 is the large, 10.7-inch mop roller, which Eufy says is the longest in its price range.
The C28 has 15,000 Pa of suction for vacuuming in addition to its mopping capabilities.
The mop roller self-cleans with clean water nine times a second, which the company says is the highest in the industry. There’s also an internal scraper that squeezes wastewater out of the roller and moves it to the dirty water tank. The roller supports 10N of downward pressure, higher than the 6N you get with the C20.
The vacuum brushroll features useful tech, including DuoSpiral Brushes with built-in comb teeth to prevent tangles from pet and human hair.
Specs and features
The C28 comes with lidar and has object avoidance and mapping capabilities. We’ll be testing it at CNET Lab.
Other specs and features are fairly standard. The C28 has iPath 2.0 Laser navigation, which includes lidar detection and the ability to avoid objects and recognize home layouts. It can cross thresholds up to 20 millimeters high, and the roller mop lifts up to 10.8 millimeters when it detects carpet to keep it dry.
The C28 comes with 15,000 Pa of suction, and it should work for dust, pet hair, crumbs and other debris across different surfaces like hardwood floors, tiles and carpets.
There’s an all-in-one base station that Eufy says allows 75 days of hands-free maintenance. It should handle mop cleaning, dust removal, refilling the water tank, waste water collection and hot air drying of the mop rollers on its own. The company says a four-air duct system results in 25% faster drying.
Price and availability
The Eufy Omni C28 will cost $800 at launch, but you’ll receive $200 off if you preorder by Thursday. The first 200 orders also receive an accessory kit, an extended warranty and Eufy Plus membership. In the US, it’ll be available through both Eufy and Amazon
