Donald Trump on Savannah Guthrie’s Mom: Would Commit Federal Resources

U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken out on the disappearance of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mother Nancy, telling reporters that he would commit more federal resources to finding the 84-year-old if needed.

During a bill signing on Tuesday night, Trump was asked by a reporter for his thoughts on the situation and if he would send more federal agents to look for Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing on Saturday night in Arizona. The disappearance is now being looked at as a possible abduction, with the FBI assisting the Pima County Sheriff’s Office on the case.

“Sure, I would,” Trump said about providing more federal resources to find Nancy, adding that he plans to call Savannah Guthrie. “I’m going to call her later on,” he said. “I think it’s a terrible thing. I always got along very good with Savannah.”

Trump continued that it is a “very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out.”

On Tuesday night, TMZ reported that it had received an alleged ransom note “demanding payment for the release of Nancy Guthrie” in Bitcoin. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said in response: “We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie. We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

Savannah Guthrie has not been on “Today” since her mother’s disappearance and has also pulled out of covering the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. On Monday, she posted a statement on Instagram asking for prayers.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you.”
