Ipswich Town and Hull City gained ground on Middlesbrough in the Championship automatic promotion race on Tuesday, as Kim Hellberg’s team drew 1-1 with Leicester City.
Boro’s winless streak stretched to three games as they were held at the Riverside Stadium, though it could have been even worse for them after Caleb Okoli put Leicester ahead.
Okoli got across Luke Ayling to head Divine Mukasa’s free-kick past Sol Brynn in the 18th minute, though the same player would later be partly responsible for Boro’s equaliser.
He was caught in possession to kick-start a rapid counter-attack in first-half stoppage time, which resulted in Tommy Conway cutting the ball back for Riley McGree to convert.
Both teams missed opportunities to win it in the second half, and Coventry City could now pull five points clear of Middlesbrough when they face Sheffield United on Wednesday.
Both Ipswich and Hull are three points adrift of second, with the Tractor Boys also possessing two games in hand on Boro after Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Watford.
Sindre Walle Egeli and George Hirst struck in either half, while Tom Ince had a late penalty saved by Christian Walton as Ed Still suffered his first defeat as the Hornets’ head coach.

Hull were 4-2 victors over Derby County, having twice been pegged back from a game that was 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining. John Egan capped a flowing move to restore the Tigers’ advantage, then Lewis Koumas finished off the contest with six minutes to play.
Elsewhere, Liam Cullen scored a 95th-minute equaliser as Swansea City drew 1-1 with Preston North End, as co-owner Snoop Dogg watched them live for the first time.
Snoop Dogg received a rapturous reception on his first trip to Swansea.com Stadium, but Daniel Jebbison’s volley threatened to ruin the party, until Cullen headed in Gustavo Nunes’ cross to spark jubilant celebrations.
Elsewhere, Kuryu Matsuki scored his first two Championship goals as Southampton thumped Queens Park Rangers 5-0. Having won four of their last six games (two draws), they are four points behind sixth-placed Wrexham.

Data Debrief: Momentum with Tractor Boys?
Ipswich may have momentum on their side in the race for a top-two finish, having now won on four of their last five visits to Watford in the league (one loss).
Kieran McKenna’s side have now lost just one of their last 10 midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) games (six wins, four draws), and winning their two games in hand would take them above Middlesbrough.
