The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a contract with shooting guard Cam Thomas for the rest of the season on Sunday, a league source confirmed to The Athletic.
Thomas averaged 15.6 points and 3.1 assists in 24.3 minutes per game in 24 appearances (eight starts) with the Brooklyn Nets this season. The 24-year-old guard suffered a left hamstring strain earlier this season that forced him to miss 20 games. In 25 games with the Nets last season, Thomas averaged 24 points and 3.8 assists in 31.2 minutes per game.
In five NBA seasons, Thomas has shown the ability to be a volume scorer, but hasn’t always taken the best shots and been all that efficient. For his career, Thomas has shot 43.5 percent from the field, which includes 34.3 percent from 3.
Thomas will be an interesting fit in Milwaukee as the Bucks try to keep adding talent around superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Two days before suffering a right calf strain that has sidelined him since Jan. 23, Antetokounmpo told reporters that he believed the Bucks had chemistry issues with many players on the team playing “selfish” basketball.
The Nets waived Thomas after this year’s trade deadline. During the offseason, Thomas took a $5.9 million qualifying offer from Brooklyn after being unable to agree to an extension with the Nets.
